Max Verstappen has previously opened up on the exercise routine, training schedule and diet which has helped him secure two F1 Drivers’ Championships. Verstappen dominated the campaign last season and currently leads this year’s championship with just three races completed. Express Sport takes a look at how the 25-year-old keeps himself in shape.


Verstappen has revealed the hardest part of racing is the strain on his neck and lower back. He uses weights and balancing exercises from his home as well as a series of exercise machines.

These include a wattbike, Isomed steering wheel to build up upper arm strength and a neck dynamometer. Verstappen told JOE: “For me the most important is just the cardio. I do a lot of running, Everyone is built differently.

“Some people need to work out a lot and need to focus on their muscles to keep the muscle strength up. From my side, I think I’m a little bit lucky that I don’t need to focus too much on that. Of course, I’m doing these workouts but if I don’t do that for like a week I’m not losing a lot of strength.”

Training routine

Max Verstappen has previously revealed he trains up to two times a day to stay fit throughout the F1 season. However, he stresses the importance of rest in a packed calendar and admits to having several off days when away from the track.

Apple may want to use AI to change your diet, sleep routine, and mood, Bloomberg reports

  • Apple is developing an AI-powered health coach under the codename Quartz, Bloomberg reported.

  • It will use Apple Watch data to monitor diet, exercise, and sleep patterns, then suggest changes.

  • While reportedly set to be released next year, the initiative remains unannounced.

The future of wellness is Artificial Intelligence, with an algorithmic coach making customized suggestions for when to exercise and sleep, what snacks to eat — even how to improve your mood.

At least, that’s what the development team at Apple seems to be thinking.

Bloomberg first reported the tech giant’s plan to create an AI-powered health coaching service, currently under development with the codename “Quartz.” It would use data from Apple Watch users to monitor sleep patterns, exercise routines, diet, and emotions, then suggest personalized healthy changes based on the AI’s analysis.

According to Apple employees who were not authorized to speak publicly about the unannounced initiative, the outlet reported, the coaching tool will be rolled out next year if development is completed on time, with an emotion log feature and an unknown aid for nearsightedness to debut later this year.

Representatives for Apple did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.

What foods should I avoid with diabetes? Advice on best diet plan from a nutrition expert.

More than 10% of Americans have diabetes and roughly half of us are at risk for the disease, but most don’t know how to eat to prevent the worst outcomes.

To some degree, the advice is the same nutritionists give everybody: eat lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds and avoid heavily processed, packaged foods.

Most people know some features of a healthy diet: eating fruits and vegetables and avoiding soda and fast foods.

But it’s more complicated than that. Understanding how diabetes develops can help add to those recommendations and bust some myths.

The first is about weight.

While excess weight increases the risk for diabetes, proper nutrition is likely just as important, said Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian, a cardiologist and professor of nutrition at the Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy.

“Regardless of your weight, diet has a major impact,” he said.

It’s not just the glucose

Foods that lead to a spike in blood glucose drive up the amount of insulin released into the bloodstream, which over the long term, increases the risk for diabetes and makes the disease harder to control.

So what is glucose?

Refined starches, also known as complex carbohydrates, are chains of glucose molecules and have long been known to trigger this rapid spike in blood glucose. These include white rice, white bread and potatoes.

►Added sugar, a simple carbohydrate, is also well known to trigger diabetes because it’s 50% glucose.

Michael Mosley shares 16:8 weight loss diet plan and explains ‘calorie window’

TV doctor Michael Mosley is back with more helpful diet advice, and has recently shared the benefits of intermittent fasting.

The practice is a large part of many of his diet plans, and recently Michael’s Fast800 page has shared advice for its ‘maximum fasting’ method

It is called the 16:8 diet, and sees people taking a 16-hour break between dinner and breakfast the following morning.

A recent post on his Fast800 Instagram page read: “Intermittent fasting consists of following an eating pattern where you either refrain from consuming calories in any form daily for a period of hours, or significantly reduce your calorie intake across your day.”

The post goes on to explain Time Restricted Eating (TRE) and how you have a window to eat, which depends on the diet that best suits you.

In the case of the 16:8 diet, as the name suggests, you should fast for 16 hours, and have an eight hour window to eat.

It continues: “For example, 16:8 may mean you consume calories anywhere within a window of 8 hours, like 12pm-8pm, and fast for 16 hours. ⁠

Dr Joseph Dituri: Dr Joseph Dituri: US professor who broke record for longest time living underwater has no plans to come back to land yet; know more

A man has lived underwater for 74 days in Florida, USA, for his research. Dr Joseph Dituri has been living at the bottom of a 30-foot lagoon. He has broken the record for the longest time living underwater by a human at ambient pressure, at a Florida Keys lodge for scuba divers.

Dr Joseph Dituri lives underwater at the Jules’ Undersea Lodge at the base of the lagoon in Key Largo. The researcher has no plans to come back to land soon. He plans to make it to 100 days underwater, to make a record that will be difficult to break. He is doing it all for his underwater mission titled Project Neptune 100.

Underwater man’s diet

While living underwater, Dr Dituri has been maintaining a protein-heavy diet, consuming eggs and salmon cooked in a microwave. He has posted videos of his food on his Instagram handle.

The man exercises using resistance bands, does daily pushups, and makes sure to take a nap for an hour.

Posting about his underwater life at sea and his record-breaking feat, Dr Dituri said on social media, “Today I broke the world record for living underwater. The curiosity for discovery has led me here. My goal from day one has been to inspire generations to come, interview scientists who study life undersea and learn how the human body functions in extreme environments.”

Who held the previous ‘living underwater’ record?

The previous record of living underwater was held by Tennessee professors Bruce Cantrell and Jessica Fain, who achieved the feat at 73 days, two hours and 34 minutes. Incidentally, the earlier record was made at the same location in the year 2014.

City manager to address ‘road diets’ on Tuesday | City News

After aggressively pursuing the idea, the city might be ready to start creeping back on its street transformation program – now almost infamously known around Scottsdale as “road diets.”

While some embrace the idea of trading motorized vehicle traffic for bike lanes, others are experiencing what can only be called “road diet rage.”

Last week, Bob Littlefield – a former council member and husband of a current one – sent out a mass mailing with the subject line, “Road diets have become the symbol of citizen distrust of city hall.”

In another email chain, Bob Pejman shared Littlefield’s sentiments, wondering:

“How many council members can resist getting sucked into the Bike Lane Kool Aid push? … Just count how many bikes you see here even in good weather days. Then count the cars and the ever growing traffic.”

Beverly Moore insisted, “If the city of Scottsdale was a dam, one would have to question why the powers that be keep poking new holes into it.”

But proponents insist this is a way to make roads safer for drivers, bikers and pedestrians.

Nearly all the Scottsdale City Council representatives have complained about being deluged with emails from those loving or hating road diets.

“For weeks, council members have been spending way too much time bickering over ‘road diets’ that an overwhelming majority of residents didn’t request,” Councilman Barry Graham said.

“I’ve lost count of how many residents have told council they oppose shrinking traffic lanes and replacing them with bike lanes,” he added.

Graham complained that his colleagues are ignoring “the projects that residents voted for in the 2019 bond election” while spending too much time on road diets.

Graham’s wish that the idea would just go away is not going to happen.
